What Does TPMS Mean?

TPMS Sensors

TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System that uses tire pressure sensors to track the air pressure of your Mercedes-Benz tires. If the system senses that one or more of your tires needs pressure, the TPMS warning light on your dashboard will either flash or turn on. Most new Mercedes-Benz vehicles have this exciting technology, which means it is easy to prevent any tire failure, so you can enjoy a smooth driving experience on the Kettering roads.

What Are the Tire Pressure Monitoring System Features?

The purpose of the tire pressure monitoring system is to track the pressure inside your Mercedes-Benz tires and alert you when the levels get too low. The warning light may look like a flat tire with an exclamation mark in the middle, or the letters TPMS will illuminate. If you notice that this light is on, your Mercedes-Benz tires are underinflated. This can cause:

  • Poor traction
  • Decreased load carrying capability
  • A flat tire or blowout
  • Poor fuel economy

Proper tire inflation protects you from a potential accident. In the long run, it prevents your Mercedes-Benz tires from wearing out prematurely. This technology is an excellent way to track your vehicle’s tire pressure during your Oakwood travels without having to remember to do manual checks on your own.

Proper Tire Inflation

Both over- and under-inflation of tires lead to lots of issues. A properly inflated tire will:

  • Reduce tread movement thereby increasing the life of the tire
  • Reduce rolling resistance to increase vehicle efficiency
  • Increase water dispersion that decreases the likelihood of hydroplaning

What is the proper tire pressure for your vehicle? Check your vehicle’s owner’s manual to ensure your tires are properly inflated.

There are several options when it comes to filling up your Mercedes-Benz tires:

  • Many gas stations have tire filling areas separate from the pump station.
  • You can take your vehicle to your favorite service center for full tire service.
  • If you need a little more air in your tires quickly, you can even use a bike pump!
