Learn How to Check the Oil Level in Your Car

Newer vehicles could have electric oil monitors that don’t use the traditional dipsticks that many Springboro drivers are used to, so check your vehicle’s owner’s manual for recommendations. If you’re checking the oil manually, follow these steps below:

  1. Make sure the vehicle is parked on level ground and that the engine is turned off and cold.
  2. Open the vehicle’s hood and find the dipstick.
  3. Pull the dipstick out of the engine and wipe any oil from the end of it.
  4. Re-insert the dipstick back into its tube, then pull it out and look at both sides to see where the level is.

The dipstick will have a way to show the proper oil level. If the top of the oil streak is between two marks or within a cross-hatched area, your oil level is good. If not, more oil is needed.

Be sure to purchase the correct Mercedes-Benz synthetic motor oil, remove the oil filler cap, then add a little oil at a time until you reach the proper oil level.

Why Check Your Vehicle’s Oil Level?

Checking your vehicle’s motor oil is often overlooked, but having the right amount is essential in ensuring your vehicle’s performance. Mercedes-Benz synthetic motor oil replacement should be performed at least twice a year, depending on the model and how it’s driven. Oil checks are recommended to be done at least once a month so you can be confident that there are no leaks and that your vehicle has plenty of synthetic motor oil for your journeys beyond Oakwood. With that said, if your car’s hood is too hot to touch or there’s steam billowing out from it, schedule a service appointment right away. This is a sign that there could be an oil leak and the engine is overheating.
